Infestation

Last Sunday Jared found a half-nibbled peppermint kiss on his desk. We thought maybe it was a mouse, but weren't too concerned since we hadn't seen anything else. We were leaving town, so we deep cleaned the house, got rid of food and trash and set up a trap under his desk with some peanut butter. I read on the internet that mice don't like mint or dryer sheets. So I filled the house with peppermint oil soaked paper towels and dryer sheets. Let me begin by explaining my phobia of mice. I get creepy crawly chills just writing about this. I cannot eat and I cannot sleep! They disgust me!

Anyways, we got back into town today and found the mouse trap still set but the peanut butter completely licked off. Then I went to put Greyden down for a nap and found droppings IN HIS CRIB!!! We decided to do a little searching for these mice. Everything in Greyden's room had little droppings in it. From his changing table to the toy baskets. The closet was a disaster. They were apparently living in some of my boots and purses. They had chewed holes through Jared's suit, the laundry hamper and all kinds of things. Needless to say, we have trash bags full of clothes, shoes, bags, purses, blankets... We spent hours disinfecting floor to ceiling with bleach and lysol.

No this is not the end of the story. I also found some things under the kitchen sink. I guess they have been there too. If anyone knows our home you will know that it is a long walk from Greyden's room to the kitchen with our bedroom in between. Have they overtaken our home? Where else am I going to find their "leftovers?" They are everywhere!!! I hope I can sleep tonight and that our 4 traps won't still be set in the morning...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Talk to Dave - we had mice, and he got rid of them somehow.

I can't believe you have mice. Your house is so clean all the time!

eeww! I hate mice. At least you have Jared home to do the dirty work!
One day last winter we had a mouse and Chad was out of town, I called the manager to come set a trap and the next morning as I am getting breakfast for Blake at 7 am I hear Blake letting out a blood curtling scream. The mouse had made it's way across the kitchen around the courner into the middle of the living room while attached to a trap. I had to pick up the dang thing (with a pair of long salad tongs) and stuck it in a big plastic container and threw it away, container and tongs included. Keep in mind it was 7 am and I had just woken up.
I feel your pain about the mice. I hope you catch them!

Oh Amy that story gave me chills! If Jared weren't here I would call and exterminator and check myself into a hotel for a couple weeks. I'm nervous to even look at the mouse traps. And Carrie... the cleanliness in our home has gone very downhill lately. That must be it!

This is going to give me nightmares tonight. I hate ANYTHING that crawls, except of course for my cute baby. EEKKS!!! I hope you have gotten rid of them.

I don't know you, but I kind of know your husband from when we were in the Singles Ward. I happened onto your website from Denise and Eric's blog. I am here to give advice. I was in VA for Christmas and my mom had RATS in her garage! DISGUSTING. We tried setting traps w/peanut butter and they were cheeky little things and licked off the peanut butter and even in one instance pulled the trap away. So, we bought the traps that are sticky. They worked and now the little buggers are gone. So consider trying the sticky traps, you might actually get rid of them. Good Luck!

Hey Christina--did you ever solve this issue? We don't have the extreme version, but we have been battling one little snot for a while now. We need some suggestions too!
