36 weeks (late)

Third baby already getting less attention... I couldn't get my act together (aka showering and drying my hair) to take my 36 weeks pics so these are almost a week late. And my hair still wasn't washed--haha. Can you tell I am EXHAUSTED? This has been a long pregnancy and emotionally draining. Glad to be meeting my little guy soon!

I have been so worried about the health of this baby and myself the entire time. Now that I know he is okay and still growing well in my belly, it has hit me that I am going to be a mother of THREE! I am panicking a little bit and wondering how I am going to do it. I can barely handle the two I have. Whew! Wish me luck.

Strangest thing is that I had Elise at 37 weeks and Grey at 38--so this baby could be here pretty soon.

I am almost embarrassed posting the size of my belly. I didn't realize how massive it has gotten. I am counting down until I can get back to the gym. I hate that I haven't been able to work out most of this pregnancy.

Independence Day

We crammed A LOT into our holiday. It was awesome and so exhausting. I am paying for it today. I was grateful to sing all the patriotic songs at church the day before. I may or may not have teared up a few times. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for those that fought -- risking and losing lives and possessions -- for our freedoms. What an incredible gift they gave to us!!!

We spent the morning doing hair cuts for the boys, washing Jared's motorcycle and Grey's bicycle and doing stuff around the house. Then at 11 we headed over to Washington Park for their annual celebration. This year our kids were old enough for the first time that it was a blast--minus the insane heat!

They loved the horse-mounted patrol, face-painting, free lollipops and swag, and the "real" fire-truck.

We went to the decorating station to deck out Grey's bike and Elise's riding toy--her motorcycle-- to prep them for the kid's bike parade. Cutest thing ever. They loved it! Especially getting the winner ribbons and free ice cream at the end.

After Washington Park, we hurried home and got ready to head out to my dad's for a delicious BBQ. Forgot my camera of course. It was really fun to have a BBQ with family.

Again, we rushed home to get the kids ready for bed as much as possible before heading over to the fireworks at the Denver Country Club. We met up with Jason, Pam and their kiddos which made it even more fun. I LOVE fireworks! Always the best ending to the 4th.

Spaghetti Sauce

It is time for me to start making freezer meals so I don't have to do much post-baby. I have started my lists of things to make. I always keep spaghetti sauce frozen for a quick dinner. I double and sometimes triple this recipe. I add chopped veggies to make it extra healthy and serve it on whole wheat noodles. Obviously if you don't have all these veggies on hand, you don't have to add them. I just like to add as many healthy things into my family's diet as possible!

Spaghetti Sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1-2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 bell pepper, chopped (I have used red, green or yellow)
1 large carrot, chopped
1 zucchini, chopped
Generous handfuls of spinach, chopped finely
4-6 ounces mushrooms, sliced and halved (optional)
1 can olives, rinsed and chopped or sliced thinly (optional)
1 tablespoon fennel, crushed well
2 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
3 tablespoons Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon basil (as needed to taste)
salt & pepper to taste

In a large pot, heat the olive oil and then add the onion, garlic, bell pepper, carrot and fennel. Cook until veggies are soft. Add the remainder of ingredients leaving the salt & pepper to taste until closer to the end. Cook on low as long as possible, at least a couple of hours, stirring occasionally. Also works great in the crock-pot, but skip the stirring and realize the sauce won't thicken as much in the crock pot as on the stove. Add salt & pepper at the end as you begin testing the flavor. You can add a little sugar if it tastes too acidic. I always top mine with fresh parmesan!

Summer Birthdays

This week was our annual Waterworld party with Jared's family for the summer birthdays. It was really fun! Would have been more fun for me if I weren't less than 4 weeks from my due date and the swimsuits are getting a little snug, but I enjoyed floating in the wave pool.

This was the first time Grey has been daring and confident on everything. He would not stop all day. I guess those swim classes are paying off. I was proud of him, but lost him in the wave pool and started freaking out for a minute. He was in the deep end hanging onto the bars and getting overtaken by each wave. But apparently loving every minute. I guess he also went down a racing ride on a sled by himself too.

He is precious!

Elise is one of the summer birthdays being celebrated and she got to open some presents. She was so cute ooohing and aaahing at everything. She is so sweet. I love my almost two-year-old!

A REAL BIG TREAT--our kids rarely get soda
Especially not soda with pizza AND chocolate cake--so they really enjoyed it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Grandpa, Cindy, Pam, Ryan & Elise!!!

Baby Party

My sweet sister-in-law and friend threw me a baby party to celebrate this third baby. They took me to Maggiano's (which coincidentally was my first date with Jared) for a girl's night out with my family and best girlfriends. It was a perfect evening and they sure did spoil me. I think I am ready for another girl's night out... And it got me so excited to meet this sweet, tiny boy and dress him in all the cute clothes.

Check out all the goodies:
I am embarrassed to be so spoiled for my third baby, but it sure was awesome!

Baur's

Jared's grandmother worked at the Baur's Restaurant downtown years and years ago. They had some unfortunate circumstances and had to shut the historic restaurant down. My mother-in-law took the family on a field trip to have dessert there. We lucked out and the owner was there and gave us a wonderful tour telling us stories about all the old photos. He even filled little bags with handmade candies to take home. It was a great experience.

Staycation

The title should read "Our wonderful mountain getaway..." Unfortunately the day before we were supposed to go to the mountains for a week, the doctor said, "No way." It is way too risky in my situation--I am at a high risk for my water breaking early apparently. So we had to change our plans and decided to still make it a vacation, but at home. We didn't tell many people we were here because part of a vacation is not having to go anywhere or do anything. It was awesome! We did so many fun family things and had a blast together. It was the perfect way to spend time together before our family has some big changes again soon.

Some highlights of our staycation:

Dinner & s'mores in the backyard

Buying ukeleles for Jared & Grey to have a Daddy/G band
Walks to the park

Lots and lots of naps and reading

Playing dress-up with Elise (mostly me just trying new things with her hair and letting her try on my jewelry)

A day trip to Colorado Springs:
--Seven Falls, feeding trout, and a picnic in the canyon
(pretty canyon, but the falls were PATHETIC - do not waste your time or money!)
--Manitou Springs to play at the arcade and eat ice cream--

Cashing in my birthday money for a 90-minute heavenly massage

A day at the Splash in Golden (AMAZING!!)
